Reflective Worship

Updated: Jan 12, 2023

I find myself so often staring at the sky. If you ask me how I know God is real; one of my answers will be, the sky. When I am walking, running, or driving in a car I am always staring at the sky and I am astutely astounded by the magnificence of this creation. I try to take a picture; I even close my eyes in an attempt to remember what it looked like a moment ago. All futile efforts to capture the ultimate illumination of God’s glory. I want to share with people what I see when I look up. However, I quickly discover that what I am seeing is not a sight but an experience. Engulfed in the visual depiction of my surroundings I look at the sky and feel a drawing; a reminder that my God desires me. He wants to connect and cover me. Even with all of my flaws He lifts the sun into the sky, brings clouds through the day, and storms an uncanny comfort that I simply cannot explain.

I want to capture these moments for all. I want to share them with those who cannot see what I see because the weight of life keeps them from soaring into the imaginative aircraft that I ride each day. Since I cannot do this for you or for them, I ask God to draw you all closer so that everyone may see what I feel and feel what I see when I look up at the sky.

Life is a complex ball of elements replicating the complications of creation. My escape into truth from reality is the sky. God is reminding us that He’s always got you covered. As the sky wraps around this circular mass so do the arms of our Lord, which keep us in comfort even when we don’t look up.

I lift up my eyes to the mountains— where does my help come from? My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth. – Psalm 121:1-2
